Bromsgrove v Woodrush Sunday 1st Nov 2009

E-mail Print

With the scheduled Bourneville game already cancelled and training at Finstall Park off due to wet weather, all eyes were on Woodrush, where a small squad of 11 Boars were due to travel.

Fortunately the hosts were keen to go ahead, so following a flurry of calls and a pitch inspection @ 09.15 conditions were deemed suitable! (Not quite sure which pitch they were inspecting, but it certainly wasn't the field the Under 10's played on!)
Despite the rain, the gale-force wind, the clover-covered 'pitch', the delayed start and only  7 lads turning up for the opposition (2 Boars were 'volunteered' to make up their numbers) a game of rugby ensued.

How the players managed to remain upright and/or see the try line , let alone reach it, was beyond belief. Heavy tackles flew in from both sides, but fortunately (as there were now no subs) injuries were minor and those affected managed to play on. This gritty match ended 3:3 with tries for Cello, Ronan and Sam Robinson.

A special mention must go to Joe Mellor and Charlie Yip, who showed great maturity and sportsmanship when asked to play for the opposing team. Let's hope you didn't give away too many of our tactics!

P.S. Green & White hoops did nothing for you!

Bromsgrove v Bredon Under 10's Sun 25 Oct 2009

E-mail Print

Despite the distance and the school holidays, Bromsgrove sent a squad of 25 lads to Bredon.

For the first time this season the opposition almost matched our strength in numbers, but that's where the similarity ended.

Game 1 saw The Boars with an overwhelming victory of 4:0.

The forwards, led by 'the General', Nick Sfrantzis prevented Bredon from entering the game enabling regular try scorer, Sam Colebrook to add 3 to his tally and speed merchant, Reece Spiers to score the fourth to seal the game.

A 3:3 result in the second game belies the drama and excitement of this match.

As the score line suggests these two teams were evenly matched and played some solid rugby. Each time Bredon threatened to go ahead the Boars showed tenacity and replied with a try. Excellent team effort, with an outstanding performance by Harry Nichols who bagged all three tries.

The third and final game sealed the victory, 5:1 to the Boars

With one win and a draw in the bag, the coaches had the luxury of experimenting with the team and 'mixed it up a bit' (good technical talk this!!) The formula worked it's magic, resulting in one try a piece for Sam Colebrook (keep them coming, Sam!) Darragh Murray, Nik Sfrantzis, Sam Robinson and Joe Mellor.

Come on you Under 10's!
